Standard Test Methods for Heat-Shrinkable Tubing for Electrical Use

Theory:

ASTM D2671 specifies several tests for plastic, rubber, or silicone tubing use to sheath wires. ASTM D2671 is very similar to ASTM D876 for PVC tubing and pipes. 

Geometry:

The ID and OD of the tube must be known in order to select the proper mandrels.

Solution:

Usually a specially designed cork or mandrel will go into the end of the tube in order for it to be gripped properly. Special grip adapters may need to be used depending on the exact tube dimensions. 

Analysis:

Ultimate Tensile Strength, Elongation and several other calculations such as peel strength may be made from this test.
